Tupi reaches 4 billion BOE in cumulative production
Petrobras’ Tupi asset, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, has reached 4 billion barrels of oil equivalent in cumulative production, becoming the first asset in the company’s 73-year history to reach this volume.
The mark comes as Petrobras completes 20 years of operations in the area. Tupi was the first pre-salt system to enter commercial production, in 2010, and became the foundation for the technologies and operating model later deployed across Brazil’s ultra-deepwater pre-salt developments.
Tupi also returned to production above 1 million barrels of oil per day in 2026, a level first reached in 2019.
Nine FPSOs currently operate at the asset: P-66, P-67, P-69, Cidade de Itaguaí, Cidade de Angra dos Reis, Cidade de Maricá, Cidade de Paraty, Cidade de Mangaratiba and Cidade de Saquarema.
Despite being one of Petrobras’ most mature pre-salt assets, Tupi remains the focus of further development. Eleven wells were connected in 2025, taking the total number of wells drilled to more than 150.
Petrobras is evaluating additional wells, extensions to the operating life of some of the nine existing units and the possibility of a new production platform from 2031, subject to the required consortium and regulatory approvals.
Tupi’s performance also reflects the wider scale reached by Brazil’s pre-salt. The region currently accounts for around 80% of Petrobras’ production and could represent up to 82% during the 2026-2030 Business Plan period.
Petrobras plans US$69.2 billion in E&P investments under its 2026-2030 implementation target portfolio, with 62% allocated to the pre-salt. Total oil and gas production is expected to peak at 3.4 million boed in 2028 and 2029.
