Safe Notos: new Petrobras contract

Safe Notos moves onto new Petrobras contract as day rate rises to USD 140,000

Prosafe’s Safe Notos transitions today, September 1, to a new four-year contract with Petrobras for safety and maintenance support offshore Brazil.

The contract itself was awarded in 2025, but its commencement marks a significant repricing of the unit.
​
Safe Notos moves from a contractual day rate of approximately USD 75,000 to around USD 140,000 per day, an increase of nearly 87%. The new agreement has a total value of approximately USD 204 million and is expected to keep the unit committed to Petrobras into 2030.

For comparison, the previous four-year Petrobras contract, which began in July 2022, was valued at approximately USD 110 million.

Safe Notos has operated for Petrobras in Brazil since December 2016. The DP3 semi-submersible unit can accommodate up to 500 people and is used to support offshore safety, maintenance and intervention activities.

The new rate also reflects a broader change in Brazil’s offshore accommodation market. Prosafe describes the current global market as the tightest in a decade, with Brazil remaining its largest market and limited availability of high-end units supporting higher rates.

Prosafe’s latest Brazil market overview identifies 11 vessels coming off contract during 2027 and 2028, with further contracting expected in the country.

For Safe Notos, today’s transition therefore represents more than the continuation of a long Petrobras relationship. It also highlights how much the economics of high-specification offshore accommodation have changed in Brazil since its previous contract was priced four years ago.
