Petrobras signs 20-year LNG deal with Sempra Infrastructure

Petrobras has signed a 20-year agreement with Sempra Infrastructure for the purchase of approximately 0.8 million tonnes per annum of LNG from the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Texas.

The long-term supply will give Petrobras greater predictability in its gas portfolio, reducing part of its exposure to spot-market volatility while increasing flexibility to meet contractual demand in Brazil. Sempra said Petrobras will become the first South American company in its LNG customer portfolio.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 will add approximately 13 Mtpa of liquefaction capacity through two new trains, scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2030 and 2031. Combined with Phase 1, the development is expected to reach around 26 Mtpa.

The agreement also comes as Brazil prepares for higher natural gas demand, particularly from gas-fired power generation, increasing the strategic relevance of flexible and diversified LNG supply.
