Petrobras establishes new petcoke export route via Porto do Açu

​Petrobras and Porto do Açu have signed their first contract for the regular export of petroleum coke through the T-Mult multicargo terminal in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro.

The new route will consolidate volumes produced at four Petrobras refineries in southeastern Brazil: REGAP, in Minas Gerais; REDUC, in Rio de Janeiro; and REPLAN and REVAP, in São Paulo.

The agreement covers the receipt, storage and export of up to 600,000 tonnes of petroleum coke per year. The initial contract runs for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional five years.

The first operation is scheduled for the end of August.

T-Mult has 500 meters of operational quay and can receive vessels with drafts of up to 13.1 meters under tidal conditions.

Beyond adding another export point to Petrobras’ logistics network, the operation creates a single route at Açu for volumes originating from four different refineries. According to Porto do Açu, the new flow is also expected to improve the balance between inbound and outbound logistics at T-Mult, increasing truck availability and contributing to lower logistics costs.

The agreement comes as Petrobras continues to expand the international market for its petroleum coke. During the second quarter, the company reported its first export to China’s Sunstone, which became its seventh new customer for the product in 2026.
